Is Homosexuality a Sin?

Homosexuality, a term created by 19th century theorist to describe a sexual and emotional interest in someone of the same sex. Homosexuality existed all the way in biblical times, and still does today. Today, a person is often said to have a homosexual or a bisexual orientation which is a romantic or sexual attraction to the same sex, or both sexes. A survey of 190 societies around the world (1951) reported that homosexual practices were considered acceptable behavior in approximately 70% of them. But is homosexuality an acceptable practice to God? Is homosexuality a sin towards our Maker? Let us walk through the bible, as we get bible answers to this frequently asked question!

 

Is homosexuality a sin?
“Know ye not that the unrighteous shall not inherit the kingdom of God? Be not deceived: neither fornicators, nor idolaters, nor adulterers, nor effeminate, nor abusers of themselves with mankind, 10  Nor thieves, nor covetous, nor drunkards, nor revilers, nor extortioners, shall inherit the kingdom of God.” 1 Corinthians 6:9-10

Who are those that are “effeminate”, who shall not inherit the Kingdom of God?

Effeminate: Having the qualities of the female sex; soft or delicate to an unmanly degree; tender; womanish; voluptuous; unmanly. Noah’s Webster Dictionary 1828.

Answer: A man or boy who expresses a feminine nature rather than a masculine nature (also called today a homosexual), is referred to as unrighteous which shall not inherit the Kingdom of God. So will the fornicators, idolaters, adulterers etc. be refrained from heaven.

Was Ellen DeGeneres and other people born homosexuals?
“Wherefore God also gave them up to uncleanness through the lusts of their own hearts, to dishonor their own bodies between themselves: 25  Who changed the truth of God into a lie, and worshiped and served the creature more than the Creator, who is blessed for ever. Amen. 26  For this cause God gave them up unto vile affections: for even their women did change the natural use into that which is against nature: 27  And likewise also the men, leaving the natural use of the woman, burned in their lust one toward another; men with men working that which is unseemly, and receiving in themselves that recompense of their error which was meet.” Romans 1:24-27

Answer: Notice how the bible said the women changed their natural use, which is against nature, likewise the men, showing they weren’t naturally born that way. It explained a little further when it mentioned “men with men working that which is unseemly”. This tells us, wanting to change our sex is unnatural; a dishonor to our bodies, and also being with the same sex, unseemly in the sight of God.

Note: If homosexuality is caused by genetics or prenatal conditions and one twin is gay, the co-twin should also betwin study gay. Dr. Whitehead notes, “Because they have identical DNA, it ought to be 100%,” But, eight major studies of identical twins in Australia, the U.S., and Scandinavia during the last two decades revealed “If an identical twin has same-sex attraction the chances the co-twin has it are only about 11% for men and 14% for women.”

Dr. Whitehead believes same-sex attraction (SSA) is caused by “non-shared factors,” things happening to one twin but not the other, or a personal response to an event by one of the twins and not the other. For example, one twin might have exposure to pornography or sexual abuse, but not the other.

In 2002 Bearman and Brueckner studied tens of thousands of adolescent students in the U.S. The same-sex attraction concordance between identical twins was only 7.7% for males and 5.3% for females—lower than the 11% and 14% in the Australian study by Bailey et al conducted in 2000.
The conclusion of all the studies done was that gays were not born that way.[1]

 

How seriously did the Israelites take homosexuality?
“If a man also lie with mankind, as he lieth with a woman, both of them have committed an abomination: they shall surely be put to death; their blood shall be upon them.” Leviticus 20:13

Answer: Because of the sinfulness of this act, a death sentence was placed upon individuals who partook in homosexual acts.

How else is homosexuality portrayed in the bible?
“Now as they were making their hearts merry, behold, the men of the city, certain sons of Belial, beset the house round about, and beat at the door, and spake to the master of the house, the old man, saying, Bring forth the man that came into thine house, that we may know him.” Judges 19:22

What does  “that we may know him” mean?
And Adam knew Eve his wife; and she conceived, and bare Cain, and said, I have gotten a man from the LORD.” Genesis 4:1

Answer: Within context, this word to “know” therefore refers to sexual relations.

Did the master of the house approve of this act?
“And the man, the master of the house, went out unto them, and said unto them, Nay, my brethren, nay, I pray you, do not so wickedly; seeing that this man is come into mine house, do not this folly.” Judges 19:23

What does that word folly mean?
Folly: An absurd act which is highly sinful; any conduct contrary to the laws of God or an; sin. Noah’s Webster Dictionary 1828

What about in Lot’s day, was homosexuality in existence?
“And they called unto Lot, and said unto him, Where are the men which came in to thee this night? bring them out unto us, that we may know them.6  And Lot went out at the door unto them, and shut the door after him, 7  And said, I pray you, brethren, do not so wickedly.” Genesis 19:5-7

Note: The men in Sodom asked for the two men/angels as described in Genesis 19 who visited Lot, that they may “know them” which we have already defined as wanting to have sexual relation. Lot replied to them “do not so wickedly”.

Since marriage is a biblical ceremony, how was marriage defined by the Lord?
“So God created man in his own image, in the image of God created he him; male and female created he them.28  And God blessed them, and God said unto them, Be fruitful, and multiply, and replenish the earth, and subdue it:” Genesis 1:27-28

Answer: Marriage was designed to be between a male and a female in which they were given the ability to procreate, not male and male, or female and female, for they will not be able to replenish the earth. This was the First institution established for man in the beginning, which is now being trampled upon.

Where else is this confirmed?
“Nevertheless, to avoid fornication, let every man have his own wife, and let every woman have her own husband.” 1 Corinthians 7:2

Note: This shows us that man and husband is synonymous likewise woman and wife, which the Lord has given permission only for man and woman to be together or married.

Are we trying to redefine this biblical and sacred union called Marriage?

The U.S. is now the 21st country to legalize same-sex marriage nationwide, including territories.the new normal

Many movies, cartoons, sitcoms and other shows are published all over the media, giving many a perverse understanding of relationships. Some of the common shows on TV right now are Orange is the New Black, The
Fosters, Ellen DeGeneres Show, The New Normal, Grey’s Anatomy, Modern Family, Scandal and many others. What was deemed as unnatural and sinful is now looked upon as something good or normal, Isaiah 5:20.

Does God love those who practice homosexuality?
“But God commendeth his love toward us, in that, while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us.” Romans 5:8

Answer: Jesus loves us all, including sinners!

Did Jesus die for homosexuals?
“For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life.” John 3:16

Answer: Yes!

Why did He die for us all?
“And she shall bring forth a son, and thou shalt call his name JESUS: for he shall save his people from their sins.” Mathew 1:21

Answer: Christ died that He may save us from our sin; save us from homo-sexuality and not in it. He loves the homo-sexual, but not “homo-sexuality” and wants us to be removed from this sinful lifestyle.

What is the first step we should take?
“Submit yourselves therefore to God. Resist the devil, and he will flee from you.” James 4:7

Is God willing to forgive me?
“If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.” 1 John 1:9

“I Can’t, it’s hard to stop” Is there really a way out?
“There hath no temptation taken you but such as is common to man: but God is faithful, who will not suffer you to be tempted above that ye are able; but will with the temptation also make a way to escape, that ye may be able to bear it.” 1 Corinthians 10:13

How am I then to escape, or overcome this sin in my life?
“Thy word have I hid in mine heart, that I might not sin against thee.” Psalm 119:11

Answer: As we study the bible more and apply it, we are able to draw closer to Christ (also the word, John 1:1,14). As we draw nearer to Christ he will draw near to us, and he will give us the strength that we may overcome homo-sexuality, Philippians 4:13.
