Bad Language or swearing, is it ok?

“It is just a word, I didn’t really mean it” But does God hold us accountable for cursing?

Should we choose carefully the words we speak?
“Neither filthiness, nor foolish talking, nor jesting, which are not convenient: but rather giving of thanks. ” Ephesians 5:4

What difference does my choice of words make?
“A good man out of the good treasure of the heart bringeth forth good things: and an evil man out of the evil treasure bringeth forth evil things. But I say unto you, That every idle word that men shall speak, they shall give account thereof in the day of judgment. For by thy words thou shalt be justified, and by thy words thou shalt be condemned.” Matthew 12:35-37

Answer: We must give account of EVERY ideal word we speak in the day of judgment, don’t matter how harsh it is or how small we think it maybe be.

What type of words are we told to put off?
“But now ye also put off all these; anger, wrath, malice, blasphemy, filthy communication out of your mouth.” Colossians 3:8

filthy communication( aischrologia ) from the original greek means “vile conversation”

Vile Defined: Foul, nasty, unpleasant, bad

Answer: We are to put off any foul, nasty, extremely unpleasant, bad words which includes any type of bad language.

Can my words affect myself?
“Be not deceived: evil communications corrupt good manners. ” 1 Corinthians 15:33

Can my words affect others?
“Let no man despise thy youth; but be thou an example of the believers, in word, in conversation, in charity, in spirit, in faith, in purity.” 1 Timothy4:12

Answer: God knew our words can have an influence on others, therefore he told us to be an example.

How serious is our choice of words?
Death and life are in the power of the tongue: and they that love it shall eat the fruit thereof. ” Proverb 18:21

Answer: The words we speak can either lead to death or life, choose carefully the words you speak.

“Let your speech be alway with grace, seasoned with salt, that ye may know how ye ought to answer every man. ” Colossians 4:16. The Lord wants us to stay away from all bad language and swearing, He desires us to speak words which will edify others. The Lord is able to break us from this habit of swearing, but we need to make the choice today to do away with any bad words we speak, else it will be brought before us in the judgment.
