Is it a sin not to love someone? You don’t love them and you don’t hate them, you don’t wish anything bad on them you just don’t love them, is there a problem with that?
How do people know we are Christians?
“By this shall all men know that ye are my disciples, if ye have love one to another. ” John 13:35
Can we hate someone and still love God or be His disciple?
“If a man say, I love God, and hateth his brother, he is a liar: for he that loveth not his brother whom he hath seen, how can he love God whom he hath not seen?” 1 John 4:20
What is that love God wants us to have for each other?
“Charity suffereth long, and is kind; charity envieth not; charity vaunteth not itself, is not puffed up, Doth not behave itself unseemly, seeketh not her own, is not easily provoked, thinketh no evil; Rejoiceth not in iniquity, but rejoiceth in the truth; Beareth all things, believeth all things, hopeth all things, endureth all things. Charity never faileth: but whether there be prophecies, they shall fail; whether there be tongues, they shall cease; whether there be knowledge, it shall vanish away. ” 1 Corinthians 13:4-5
Note: We can make this applicable to ourselves and put our names everywhere we see charity to really know if we possess those qualities, even to our enemies. This is true love! Suffering long and thinking no evil of someone even when they persecute you. Being kind and not easily provoked when one is mean towards you. This love is not from any inert powers but from God. For we are told, “He that loveth not knoweth not God; for God is love.” 1 John 4:8
How must we love one another?
“My little children, let us not love in word, neither in tongue; but in deed and in truth.” 1 John 3:18
Answer: Many verbally express their love to someone and may communicate “loving” words to that individual, but love is not just a sentence, or a poem but an action.
What great example of love did Christ leave us?
“Hereby perceive we the love of God, because he laid down his life for us: and we ought to lay down our lives for the brethren.” 1 John 3:16
Are we to do the same?
“Greater love hath no man than this, that a man lay down his life for his friends. ” John 15:13
Answer: Yes! This is true love, sacrificing everything to the aid of someone else. While we were sinners Christ died for us!
What is the conclusion?
“But I say unto you which hear, Love your enemies, do good to them which hate you, Bless them that curse you, and pray for them which despitefully use you. ” Luke 6:27-28
Hatred towards someone is not a Christ-like trait, but a sinful one. Are you willing for God to change your heart and mindset towards someone you dislike? Do you want God to take away any feeling of bitterness or malice? Ask God in prayer to remove such feelings from your life and he promises to hear and answer you. Job 22:27
