How can we trust God?

Every day we are placed in situations where we are required to put our trust in others. It is very difficult to trust someone we do not know or do not know of, but we do put our trust in them at times. Do you trust your mechanic, that they will do an honest job? Do you trust your manager that he will do what he promises? Do you trust your pastor, that he is telling you the full truth? The Easiest individuals to trust are those we know very closely, for we have many experiences with them, and know if they will fulfill their promise or not.

What is trust?
Answer: To place confidence in; to rely on.

The Hebrew word for “Trust” was translated many times as: Confidence, secure, hope

Who are we to have confidence in?
“It is better to trust in the LORD than to put confidence in man.” Psalm 118:8

Note: Notice also the words trust and confidence is used similarly in this text, implying them to be synonymous.

Is God asking that we place our confidence and rely on him?
“Trust in the LORD with all thine heart; and lean not unto thine own understanding.” Proverbs 3:5

Is God a friend who is Trust worthy?
“God is not a man, that he should lie; neither the son of man, that he should repent: hath he said, and shall he not do it? or hath he spoken, and shall he not make it good? ” Numbers 23:19

Answer: God is not like sinful man, who promises but doesn’t fulfil, or lies and doesn’t speak the truth.  How is it that we can have faith in a poor, fallible mortal, and cannot rely upon the unchangeable God? God is a God of Truth and he will accomplish whatever he says he will do. This is someone we can trust!

How are we to get closer to Christ, that we trust Him more?
“Search the scriptures; for in them ye think ye have eternal life: and they are they which testify of me.” John 5:39

Answer: By diligent study and application of the scriptures, we are able to learn more about Christ. What better way to build a trust with someone, by knowing them more. As we study the experiences of the patriarchs, the prophets and the disciples; their trust and steadfast faith in God, we are strengthened whereby we too may have similar experiences. A study of the prophecies also helps us build our trust in God, knowing that many things prophesied in the bible have already come to past, at exact date predicted.

Can we increase our faith in God and his promises?
“So then faith cometh by hearing, and hearing by the word of God.” Romans 10:17

Note: We honor God when we take him at his word, and walk out by faith, believing that he means just what he says. He has not withheld his best gift. “He that spared not his own Son, but delivered him up for us all, how shall he not with him also freely give us all things?” Romans 8:32

What shall be our prayer, if we lack trust in God?
“And straightway the father of the child cried out, and said with tears, Lord, I believe; help thou mine unbelief.” Mark 9:24

Note: Everyone needs a practical experience in trusting God for himself. Open the heart to God; tell Him every secret of the soul. Bring to Him your difficulties, small and great, and He will show you a way out of them all. He alone can know how to give the very help you need.

What should our prayer experience be like?
“I will not let thee go, except thou bless me.” Genesis 32:26

“Ye that fear the LORD, trust in the LORD: he is their help and their shield.” Psalms 115:11
“Thou wilt keep him in perfect peace, whose mind is stayed on thee: because he trusteth in thee.” Isaiah 26:3

If you trust God, the trials will always prove a blessing, and your faith will come forth the brighter, the stronger, the purer. Satan is always trying to press the soul into distrust of God, and therefore we must educate the mind to trust him. Talk faith and hope when Satan says, as did the wife of Job, “Curse God, and die.” If you trust God, you will see more reason to trust him. As you talk of his goodness, you will see more of his love to talk about. Will you trust in God today?
