What did Jesus say concerning himself?
“Jesus said unto them, Verily, verily, I say unto you, Before Abraham was, I am.” John 8:58
Answer: Christ is implying here that he was in existence before Abraham
How long before Abraham did He exist?
” I am Alpha and Omega, the beginning and the ending, saith the Lord, which is, and which was, and which is to come, the Almighty.” Revelation 1:8 ” I am Alpha and Omega, the beginning and the end, the first and the last.” Revelation 22:13
Was anyone in existence Before Christ?
” Ye are my witnesses, saith the LORD, and my servant whom I have chosen: that ye may know and believe me, and understand that I am he: before me there was no God formed, neither shall there be after me. I, even I, am the LORD; and beside me there is no saviour.” Isaiah 43:10-11
” But unto the Son he saith, Thy throne, O God, is for ever and ever: a sceptre of righteousness is the sceptre of thy kingdom.” Hebrews 1:8
Answer: We see clearly that there was no other God before Christ and his throne has been there forever or through eternity.
Why then is Jesus called begotten son in John 3:16?
” For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life. ” John 3:16
In Hebrew: Begotten-“ginomai” to cause to be (“gen” -erate), that is, (reflexively) to become (come into being), be made
When was he “begotten” or “made” then?
” And the Word was made flesh, and dwelt among us, (and we beheld his glory, the glory as of the only begotten of the Father,) full of grace and truth. ” John 1:14
In Hebrew: Made- “ginomai” to cause to be (“gen” -erate), that is, (reflexively) to become (come into being), be made
Answer: The word “made” is the same used in john 3:16 as begotten. This tells us that he was described as begotten when he was made flesh or when he came to this earth. The only time Christ is described as begotten was when “he took upon himself the form of a servant, and was made in the likeness of men” Philippians 2:7. Even though Christ existed before he the earth was, he had to be born or begotten in this world that we may be saved from our sins. Matthew 1:21
Where was he begotten?
” But thou, Bethlehem Ephratah, though thou be little among the thousands of Judah, yet out of thee shall he come forth unto me that is to be ruler in Israel; whose goings forth have been from of old, from everlasting.” Micah 5:2
Who created all things?
” And, Thou, Lord, in the beginning hast laid the foundation of the earth; and the heavens are the works of thine hands:” Hebrews 1:10
” For by him were all things created, that are in heaven, and that are in earth, visible and invisible, whether they be thrones, or dominions, or principalities, or powers: all things were created by him, and for him: And he is before all things, and by him all things consist. ” Col 1:16-17
” In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. The same was in the beginning with God. All things were made by him; and without him was not anything made that was made.” John 1:1-3
Answer: By Christ, all things were made, how much clearer can it be that he existed from the beginning, Many have distorted the bible teaching on this topic but “While it is said, To day if ye will hear his voice, harden not your hearts…” Hebrews 3:15.
